About Zoo Ost Limited.
Anthony R. Nevin, D.O., (known to most people as Tony Nevin) MD and founder of Zoo Ost Ltd
After graduating, in 1988 from the European School of Osteopathy, Maidstone, Kent, UK, I have striven to build a truly multi disciplinary system of osteopathic medicine through my pioneering work in the veterinary field. From this association, I have derived incredible advances in my human patient work, especially with cases of partial, and near total paralysis. In 1998, I set up Zoo Ost Ltd following 10 years in practice. I was keen to bring both aspects of my work together under a single banner. A business providing treatment for both people and animals. 'Zoo Ost' is just that - Osteopathy for the wellbeing of all creatures. So far Zoo Ost Ltd has been able to help not just people of all ages, and from all walks of life, but also animals and birds from around the world. I have been privileged in treating some of the worlds rare, and endangered species as part of conservation, and rehabilitation programmes. As a result of this unique business, I am often asked to guest lecture, or provide after dinner talks. These are great opportunities to share some of the amazing experiences that this type of work can provide, along with pursuing a career of "doing good". Now looking forward with the wealth of experience 21 years in practice has brought me, I will continue to hone my osteopathic skills between both human and animal patients for the benefit of all.
Please note that only human patients are treated in our two clinics in Gloucestershire.
Osteopathic Origins Osteopathy is based on original manual techniques practiced by native North American Indians. Dr Andrew Taylor Still (a Scottish settler) developed their system into what we know now as “osteopathy”. As a branch of medicine, it lays main emphasis on the body framework (muscle-skeletal system) and how it functions. By normalising, and maintaining this system, an individual can attain, and remain healthy. Osteopathy can provide help for the whole family. Zoo Ost Ltd can provide help for the "extended family" as well.
Osteopathy in the UK Since the Osteopaths act was passed in 1993, anyone calling themselves an osteopath must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), and have fulfilled the statutory requirements of training and post graduate studies in order to practice lawfully in the UK. Osteopathy is classed as a Primary Healthcare Profession and as such, anyone wishing to see an osteopath can do so without needing a doctor’s referral. However, most osteopaths work very closely with General Practitioners as well as other health care professionals. All osteopaths working in the UK must be registered with the GOsC. It is a criminal offence to call yourself an osteopath if you are not. If you are in any doubt please contact the GOsC on 020 7357 6655 or visit their website www.osteopathy.org.uk
